Chandigarh and the area surrounding it were constituted as a Union Territory on 1 November 1966. It is the joint capital of both the Punjab and Haryana States. It is one the city of modern era with modern architectures. It has a population of 900,635 and area of the territory is 114 sq km. It has one parliamentary seat in the Lok Sabha.
