About 60 to 72 per cent voting was witnessed in Tuesday’s Assembly elections held in three States-Maharashtra, Haryana, and Arunachal Pradesh amidst sporadic violence in which one polling agent was killed.
Maharashtra:
60 per cent polling was recorded in the Maharashtra for the Assembly Elections held today. Giving this information at a press conference in New Delhi, the Chief Election Commissioner, Mr. Naveen Chawla said these are early figures and the actual polling percentage may go up marginally. Mr. Chawla said the voter turn out in the 10 Assembly Constituencies in Mumbai city was 48 per cent, while the 22 Assembly Constituencies of Mumbai suburban district recorded 52 per cent polling. Mr. Chawla said overall polling percentage in Mumbai could be just above 50 per cent. It may be recalled that Mumbai had registered a low 41.4 per cent polling during Lok Sabha Elections held in April 2009.
The Chief Election Commissioner also informed that the polling personnel could not reach polling stations in 13 centres of the Aheri Assembly Constituency, 7 in Armori and 2 in Gadchiroli Constituencies due to the Naxal hindrance. The decision about holding adjourned poll in these centres will be taken by the Election Commission later to night.
Haryana:
In Haryana, around 65 percent of 13 million electorate casted their votes for elections to the 90-member Assembly.
Haryana has an electorate of over 13 million - 7.1 million men and 5.9 million women. The highest number of voters are in the Gurgaon Assembly constituency - over 231,000. In a span of just five months, nearly 1.1 million new voters have been added to the voters' list in Haryana, officials said.
Arunachal Pradesh:
Arunachal Pradesh witnessed heavy turnout of about 72 % in today’s election of 60 legislatures to the state assembly. Voting has ended peacefully an election official said here.
Voting was held for 57 seats as three candidates have already been declared elected unopposed.
An estimated 750,000 voters were eligible to exercise their franchise.
