Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) came into existence after a series of events & prior to the General Elections in 1999 when some of the INC leaders opposed/disputed the choice of Mrs. Sonia Gandhi as their prime ministerial candidate and subsequent expulsion of Mr. Sharad Pawar, Mr. P A Sangama and Mr.Tariq Anwar formed the INC. The above three leaders formed a new party NCP. Another party called Indian Congress (Socialist) was also merged in NCP. NCP is one of the major political party in the state of Maharashtra. Ideology of NCP is progressive and secular. In the last General Elections NCP has won 9 seats. It is also a part of the INC coalition government at the center and coalition government in the state of Maharashtra. In 15th Lok Sabha Elections (2009), NCP did well in alliance with Congress to win majority of the seats from Maharashtra. It won 9 seats in total this elections, out of which 8 seats are from Maharashtra while one seat is from Meghalaya. Chairperson: Shri. Sharad Pawar Symbol: Clock Alliance: Member UPA
