Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK)
Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) came into being in 1994 as a result of a split in 1994. MDMK was founded by Mr. V Gopalaswami (also known as Vaiko). MDMK is regional political party in the states of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. MDMK won 4 seats in the last General elections for Lok Sabha in 2004.
It has been a member of the UPA. However, there has been a split in the MDMK itself in 2008 on the issue of supporting UPA government that needed to prove the majority in the house owing to withdrawal of support by left parties.
In 2009 General Elections, MDMK contested on 4 parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu and managed to win only one seat.
