Janata Dal (United) Janata Dal (United) came into existence on October 30, 2003. Formation of JD(U) is the result of the Samata Party & earlier JD(U), who joined hands together with BJP to fight the political dominance of Lalu Prasad Yadav’s lead RJD in Bihar. Some of the senior members of the Party hails form the former Janata Party & were with Jayaprakash Narayan’s Total Revolution Movement of 1974. JD(U) has a significant presence in Bihar and Karnataka and is a member of National Demorcartic Alliance. It prominent leader are Sharad Yadav & Nitish Kumar. . At present, JD(U) is heading the Govt. in Bihar under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, its alliance partner BJP. They ousted RJD led UPA government from the power by winning Bihar state assembly elections in November, 2005.. In the stewardship of Nitish Kumar, JD(U) did well in Bihar, although its allies (NDA members) did poorly in the 2009 General Elections.
