Communist Party of India (Marxist)

Communist Party of India (Marxist), CPI (M), is one of the national & the third largest political parties of India. It has its strong base in West Bengal, Kerala and Tripura. CPM came into being as a result of a spilt of the CPI in 1964. In the first general election, CPI (M) contested 59 seats out of which it won 19 seats, with a national vote percentage of 4.28. Since then, CPM has been performing well in the above mentioned states and broadened its base in other states of the country.
