ALL India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam
ALL India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK) has strong presence in Tamil Nadu and one of the major political party of Tamil Nadu state. ADMK was founded by then celebrity film star, M G Rama-chandran, (MGR) in 1972 as a breakaway faction from DMK. In 1977, ADMK came to power ousting DMK from power. They later won comfortably in 1980 elections and retained the power despite their poor performance in 1980 General Elections and remained in power till 1987.
In post MGR era, initially there have been some crisis about the leadership, later Ms. J Jayalalitha took over in 1991 and crisis was over, they won the elections comfortably in 1992. They lost the next state elections to DMK in 1997 and won again in 2002.
In the 2004 General Election, AIADMK lost all the seats in Tamil Nadu. Later in 2006 assembly elections AIADMK lost elections and DMK returned to power.
In General Elections(2009) ADMK won 9 seats.
